How Does a Doctor Test for Lyme Disease?

The objective of this experiment is to learn basic concepts related to Lyme disease, the immune system and the ELISA test.  This ELISA test is the initial screening test for the presence of antibodies against the bacterium responsible for causing Lyme disease.  This experiment is a simulation of an ELISA test to detect circulating antibodies in a hypothetical patient's serum.  The antibody sought in this case is directed against components the bacterium B. burgdorferi. 

This experiment contains reagents and components to do 6 experiments.

    • D  Donor 1 Sample
    • E  Donor 2 Sample
    • F  Secondary Antibody (2° Ab)
    • G Substrate

Requirements:

  • Distilled or deionized water

  • Timer or clock
