What is in Blood?
(Components for 6 groups)
Blood maintains the human body in equilibrium, transports oxygen and vital substances, also maintains a healthy state by transporting waste for removal by the kidneys. Other important functions are delivery of hormones to different parts of the body and clotting to avoid both loss of blood and infections. Blood is made up of plasma that is primarily water and is 50% of blood. Also present are red blood cells that carry oxygen to tissues and transports back carbon dioxide to the lungs. White blood cells defend against bacteria and other infectious agents and platelets help blood clot at the site of injuries. In this simulation experiment, students will learn about red and white blood cells as it relates to health and disease.
This experiment requires a microscope.
Includes, control samples for positive and negative red and white blood cells, three different patient samples, microscope slides, microtip transfer pipets, content background, experiment procedures, safety information and assessment questions and answers.
