Electrophoresis Concept Set^TM

Electrophoresis is used extensively in various aspects of biotechnology.
This procedure uses agarose gels that are easy to make and use. When placed in a direct electrical field, molecules, like charged dyes and DNA, can easily be separated based on their charge, size and shape. This Concept Set™ introduces students to the technology used in DNA analysis using electrophoresis. It includes spooling DNA, pipetting small volumes of liquid using a micropipette and separating charged molecules of colored dyes which simulate separating DNA by electrophoresis. Content background, experiment procedures and assessment questions and answers are included. Details are provided in the individual experiment descriptions.

 

Electrophoresis equipment is required.
