New biotechnology-based developments are providing better ways to diagnose and prevent disease. This Concept SetTM provides students the opportunity to work with accurate simulations without using human tissues or fluids. The experiments include basic urinalysis to correlate results to medical conditions, a simulated immunology test to detect for Lyme disease, and the third experiment deals with investigating how an epidemic spreads rapidly in a population and what needs to be done to curtail the spread of infectious disease. Content background, experiment procedures and assessment questions and answers are included. Additional details are provided in the individual experiments.
Electrophoresis equipment required.

Includes one of each of the following experiments:

  • DD-231 How Does a Doctor Test for Lyme Disease?
  • DD-233 What is an Epidemic?
  • DD-235 Why Do Doctors Test Urine?
